    The present invention relates to a method and system for processing a query in a query database comprising large volume of data, and more particularly, to a method and system for processing a query in a query database using column sampling.
    2. Description of the Related Art
    Because the amount of data in a data base is increasing, processing a query in a query database comprising large volume of data has become a major challenge in database management. For example, in data mining, a data base of a huge number of sequences is searched for unknown keywords within the sequences. In the searching process, the keywords are first converted into words that each represent a column in a data base, and thereafter, any word not being contained in the data base is excluded. FIG. 1 shows a query execution process in a data mining system, which comprises the following three processes: 1) first process: the data in the data base is read into a cache memory; 2) second process: keywords are converted into words; and 3) third process: words generated by the second process are compared with a list of words contained in the data base,
